The first step in the field is to meet the stakeholders, local partners and build rapport with potential users. For building rapport with the users, a translator might be required who should be carefully selected and instructed.
step 2b
Emerge and build rapport by immersion, observation and informal talks, and analyse, interpret and reflect within the team after each day in the field. Share interpretations with the participants and local partners.
step 2c
Additional methods that can be used during this step, when time and resources allow for it, are: self-reporting (cultural probes), homestay, shadowing and learning-by-doing.
